The Secret History of the Mongols, translation, study, and scholarly notes by Francis Woodman Cleaves (Cambridge, Mass, 1982), in 342 pdf pages. Publication of this work was delayed until 1982, although the translation was completed in 1956. The core of the History is believed to date from the mid-13th century. It is ironic that whatever "secrets" this work contained were revealed already in the Middle Ages, since the text has survived not in Mongolian characters, but in a medieval Chinese transcription and translation of it.
